Unrushed God

I’d like my Bible scholars out there to help me with this one.
Have you ever come across a verse in the Bible where we see God rushing busily through a task? Is there any reference to Jesus running around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off? Do artists depict the Christ dashing pellmell through cities and taking short cuts just to get to His final destination with time to spare?
My dear friend, Candace Olusolua, got me thinking about this question. I guess I had never really put much thought into a God that isn’t the least bit in a hurry to push anyone aside for His own gain. It was one of those facts about my heavenly Father that I just took for granted and knew to be true. But when I took a second to think about it a little more, a smile came to my face.
Scripture gives many examples of Christ as a shepherd to show His lack of hurry. (Ezekiel 34:11, John 10:11, John 10:14-15, Psalm 23) I obviously don’t know all that much about being a shepherd, but I can imagine that you can’t do a lot of racing around when you’re trying to take care of sheep. They scare easily and probably can’t be led at a fast pace.
I think God chose this analogy of a shepherd to remind us that we don’t have to rush and hurry through life to just get from point A to point B. He wanted to remind us that life is more about the calm, unrushed, peaceful moments that restore us and bring us into a closer relationship with Him.
It’s a simple ask that I’m making of you, my reader. What is one way you can go about your day unrushed? Maybe it’s actually taking a few sips of your coffee sitting down instead of sloshing it on your way out the door. Maybe it’s parking further away at work and enjoying a stroll gazing at the morning sunrise. In what small way can you be unrushed with your kids? How can you intentionally spend time with them so they know you’re not just going to get up and move on to your next demanding task?
Even if you might be the most laid back person you know, we all could use some unrushed moments in our life. We have an unhurried God waiting patiently for us to come and sit by His side and take a moment to just be.
