The Simple Things

Motherhood is full of the simple things that make up the bigger picture. As one of my favorite Christian artists, JJ Heller, puts it: “Big love happens in the small moments”. This morning I was struck by the joy that those small moments and victories bring me. They somehow have this magical power to far outweigh the tears, stress, and sleepless nights. What are your small moments in motherhood that you treasure? Take some time today to reflect on them today. Here are mine:

My son is rarely snuggly, but every morning he’s content to sit quietly on my lap for a few minutes.

He smiles at me every time I walk in the room.

He is now able, for the most part, to put himself to sleep for naps and at night.

He lights up when my husband gets home from work.

He rode in a swing at the park for the first time yesterday and loved it.

He is adored and slightly spoiled by two sets of wonderful grandparents.

He has two aunts and an uncle who would do anything for him.

He loves it when we read or sing to him.

When he’s done nursing he loves to look me right in the eye and touch my face.

Overall, he’s really just the most perfect baby. (Not a biased opinion at all!)
