My little boy isn’t the biggest fan of car rides. Are there any babies out there that actually are?! If so please tell me your secrets!

When he was too tiny to realize what was going on we could go anywhere and he’d sleep soundly. But now that all he wants to do is constantly move car rides definitely aren’t his favorite any more.

As the problem solver that I am, I did everything to figure what could calm him down. That included playing every calming sound track that Spotify had to offer. None of them took effect until I came across some Mr. Rogers albums. I decided to give it a try and wouldn’t you know it almost immediately did the trick! He went from screaming bloody murder to calming listening to the soothing notes of Fred Roger’s voice.

Now it doesn’t work all the time, but I’d say 90% of the time it does the trick in calming my little one. And it got me thinking. In my moments of discomfort or uncertainty what calms me down?

When we were children it may have been a stuffed animal or a secret hideout. But something changed as we got older. As teenagers we were ashamed to admit the fears that clouded our minds. Then as adults we falsely believed that we were strong enough to conquer our own fears. That unfortunately has led many of us to be controlled by those fears.

But wouldn’t it be freeing if that wasn’t the case? What if there were tactics we could use to help calm us when those fears arose?

It’s different for us all. Some use meditation and yoga. Others find that stepping outdoors calms their nerves.

So what is it for you? What is your calming Mr. Roger’s voice that helps you see the light beyond your fear?
