His Hands

I really enjoy meditating on Jesus’ hands. I was just reading a chapter in Max Lucado’s book A Love Worth Giving and several references he made to Jesus’ hands jumped out at me.

“He could hold the universe in his palm but gave it up to float in the womb of a maiden.”

“The palm that held the universe took the nail of a soldier.”

“If you knew…the hands that you made would crucify you, would you still make them? Christ did.”

The Bible mentions God’s hands as well in several verses.

This is currently my favorite, go-to verse: “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.” (Isaiah 43:13)

Job 12:10 says, “In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

“I will bring you from the nations and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered—with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm…” (Ezekiel 20:34)

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Psalm 8:3-4)

“...your love, Lord, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands.” (Psalm 138:8)

I found so many more (122 to be exact from this website!), but I think you get the idea. I love when I read quotes and verses about this physical aspect of Christ because it makes Him just that much more personal to me.

We use our hands unconsciously throughout our entire day. But when you take a moment to intentionally use your hand to touch someone’s cheek or take someone’s hand in yours, it becomes personal and intimate.

Our little Gus has figured out how to clap and it’s just about the cutest thing he does! Sometimes I catch him just lifting his little hands and watching them move. I can’t wait til he’s old enough to hold my hand!

I encourage you to think about Jesus’ hands today. What are you going through that would be made easier if someone was holding your hand? What anxieties or worries in your life would be alleviated if you placed them into the hands of your Creator? I’m a very visual person so this exercise of actually imagining the almighty God holding my hand is something I do whenever I come to an impasse in life.

Whether or not you can easily imagine this scene, He’s still there holding you tenderly. No worries, His hands are big enough to handle anything you throw at Him.
