His Gift of Faithfulness

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 ESV
The only thing I love more than finding fun and exciting Christmas gifts for my family is wrapping them. I have entire boxes dedicated to the art of gift wrapping. As a kid I remember my mom teaching me how to curl the shiny ribbon on the top of a wrapped gift. The never-ending array of wrapping paper around this time of year is too much for my shopaholic self to bear at times. The end product of a beautifully wrapped gift is delightfully satisfying. I just try not to think about the fact that it’ll get ripped open in 0.5 seconds once the recipient has received it.
When I look at all the gifts I’ve taken the time to wrap so delicately I am reminded of the faithfulness of my heavenly Father. His faithfulness is a gift that truly none of us deserve. And yet He takes the time to gift it to each of us individually. When I wrap the presents I think of the person that will be opening it and try to design it in a way that matches who they are and what they mean to me. God does the same exact thing.
He uniquely created each and everyone of us and gives His gift of faithfulness to us in individual ways. His faithfulness to me might look like the smile on the face of my 6 month old son when he wakes up after a peaceful night’s rest. God’s faithfulness to you might look like an A on the test you didn’t think you’d pass. Or He might gift you His faithfulness through the much-needed hug from a friend.
I believe that when we doubt His faithfulness because of the darkness surrounding us, that is when He shines His consistency the brightest. This attribute of God has brought with it a sense of peace and comfort over the years for me. These verses have been precious promises that I’ve clung to time and time again.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 NLT
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable.”
Isaiah 40:28 ESV
“Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.”
Psalm 119:90 NLT
The same God that is faithful and constant enough to keep the planets spinning and flowers growing is the same God that desires to gift you His faithfulness every single day of your life. No matter the darkness that you may be facing in this season, He is faithful. And if you find yourself joyful in the season you’re walking through He is faithfully rejoicing right alongside you. You can be sure, my friend, that His gift of everlasting faithfulness is freely given and freely yours.
Reflection:
Take a moment to make a list of God’s gifts of faithfulness that He has given to you.
How can you share how God has been faithful to you with someone today?
Prayer:
Father, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly thank You for Your endless gifts of faithfulness to me. I certainly don’t deserve them and find myself doubting them quite often. Please forgive me for my doubts. I praise You that even when I am faithless and doubting, You always remain faithful. Amen.
