Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.
- Joshua 21:45
I was very fortunate to grow up in a home where the Bible was read almost daily. I have distinct memories of sitting on the couch with my mom as she taught me how to read through the Bible, marking verses along the way. I learned songs to help me memorize the order of the books of the Bible and sometimes still sing them to myself when trying to find one of those tiny books in the Old Testament. I consider myself so blessed to have had the Bible be such a vital part of my upbringing.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to underline and write in my Bible. It became a form of art once I got my first journaling Bible. It helped me focus in church as I wrote out the verses in a sweeping font. My Bible, overtime, has become something I can’t seem to go a day without.
But it hasn’t always been that way. Like everyone else, I’ve had my low points where even my beloved Bible and the promises there weren’t enough to drag me out of the deep valley I found myself in. There have been many days where I didn’t think I could pick it up to read even a verse or two in Psalms.
Thankfully, God’s promises don’t ride the same emotional rollercoaster that we ride day in and day out. I am so thankful that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is oh so great (Lamentations 3:22-23). These alone are two promises that have carried me on some of my darkest days.
But do you want to know what’s even more amazing?! The promises that can be found in the Bible are endless! Even with the verse above, Joshua 21:45, I hadn’t heard of that one or underlined it in my Bible yet. I found another, new promise that seems written just for me. I’ve learned that personalizing a verse and putting your name in it can be a powerful tool to combat the devil’s lies. Try it for yourself!
“Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to [INSERT YOUR NAME HERE] was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.” He made these promises just for you. Every single promise that you find in Scripture was planned for you to find. God knows exactly what you need on your darkest and brightest days (Matthew 6:8).
My friend, cling to those promises because they are true and He will never fail you.
Response:
Make a list of just 2-3 promises that you find in Scripture. If you’re not sure where to start, my suggestion would be to look in Psalms.
Narrow it down to just one promise and claim it for your day, week, or even maybe the year ahead. See how God works in fulfilling that promise in your life.
Pray:
Father, I’ll never have the words that are sufficient enough to thank You for all the endless promises that You have given me in Your Word. Thank You that every single one was written as a strong promise that I can cling to. When satan tries to discourage me, remind me that You have fulfilled every promise and that the battle is already won!
